BIO

Tyran Schouten grew up in Orem, Utah. Even as a child, he was always interested in arts and crafts. After taking his first real art class in seventh grade, he chose to make art his career. Tyran had several amazing teachers that encouraged him to continue improving and expanding his art skills and to enter art contests. This led to receiving awards in regional, state and national contests in high school. Tyran was accepted into BYU through the Talent Awards Program. During his junior year, he went to New York for an internship with artists Brad Holland and Brett Helquist. He quickly fell in love with the city and was determined to return.

After graduating BYU with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, Tyran moved back to New York. He has been there for two years.  During those two years he completed an internship with Richard Solomon, Artist Representative, and worked as an artist at Trader Joe’s. Tyran now has murals displayed in stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn. In addition to the art for Trader Joe’s, he also worked on commissioned drawings, paintings, storefront window displays, and two additional murals for the New York School of Interior Design.

Currently, Tyran is working on conceptual paintings based on poems and scriptures. He plans to continue to enter contests and shows as a way of increasing visibility and credibility. When Tyran is not painting, he enjoys cooking, serving at the temple, and attending free events throughout the city with friends.
